Ways
Petla has studied Storytelling include that he attended an 8-month course on "Story
and Storytelling" led by Dr. Eric Miller of the World Storytelling
Institute. Before
telling a story, Petla makes a list of story events, which he then annotates
with notes about the characters' emotions and thoughts at each step. This
helps him to develop a natural flow in which he can effectively communicate
the story using his body and tone of voice. His basic approach is to identify
a main theme or organising principle of a story, and improvise his
storytelling around this key idea. Petla's
Vision: To build
a storytelling-driven education model that moves beyond rote learning by
connecting ideas across disciplines such as science, philosophy, and history
– and everyday life, which could motivate the listeners to understand the
deeper patterns of reality through narrative, curiosity, and inquiry. Core
Skills: 1) Story
based quizzing for school children 2) Moral-based
stories from Indian Mythology and Folklore such as the Panchatantra and
Jataka Tales. 3)
Experimenting with Science Fiction based storytelling to make STEM subjects
more interesting. 4) Creating
his own stories based on the Hero/Heroine's Journey Model, and also assisting
others to create such stories. 5)
Book-based storytelling sessions (turning books into interactive experiences). Storytelling

storytelling practice is largely self-developed through interdisciplinary

Socratic dialogue (question-driven exploration). 2)

Karuna. Sree Karuna is a post graduate in
Management with both Human Resources and Marketing as specialisations. After an experience of 20-plus
years in fields such as Software Recruitment, Media, and Education, in 2019
she changed course and decided to step into the area of Mental Health and
started pursuing a masters degree in Psychology. Through the Vizag Junior Literary
Festival in 2018, she became associated with many eminent storytellers and
authors of children's books in India.
Feeling called to the world of storytelling, she studied with the Storytelling
Education and Arts India Council (SEAIC) which certified her as
Storyteller in May 2020, She has continued to upgrade her
skills by attending workshops from renowned storytellers of the world, such
as: *

an NLP Practitioner, and is studying to be certified as a Master Practitioner
in NLP by the Lightweaver House of NLP.
She has earned Mindfulness Coach and Happiness Coach certifications
from Happitude India. Sree Karuna loves to tell stories
to both children and adults. She tells
stories in English, Hindi,and Telugu.
Her genres of storytelling include Folktales, Mythology, Historical
Stories, Personal-experience Stories, Stories Created by Herself, and Stories
Created by Other People. She has founded "Chandamama Katha"
("In the Moonlight of Stories"). To upkeep the Telugu tradition of
telling stories, she holds Katha Sambaram throughout the year before
important festivals. In Visakhapatnam, she regularly
tells stories to children at BookMagic Library, and in a number of schools. Sree Karuna told stories in
Jharkand Storytelling Festival 2021, and in Chennai Storytelling Festival
2022 (in Telugu and English). She is a member of FEAST, and
volunteered at FEAST FEST 2021. She is also a member of the
Healing Story Alliance, of the USA's National Storytelling Network. She is a nature lover and wants
to protect mother earth for her daughters and other children of the world. She believes that stories have
the power to heal and to spread happiness. She often uses storytelling as a
medium to enhance Life Skills in her workshops. A

Varalakshmi is a passionate
and accomplished educator with a distinguished career in Montessori teaching,
counseling, and storytelling. She has
demonstrated a deep commitment to nurturing young minds, with over two
decades of experience in the education field.
As a dedicated educator and storyteller, Varalakshmi is committed to
continuously enhancing her expertise in the art of storytelling and exploring
innovative methods to engage and inspire diverse audiences. Varalakshmi holds a PG
Diploma in Guidance and Counseling from Nagarjuna University (2023), a
Master’s degree in Psychology from Andhra University (2022), an MA in English
from Andhra University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Berhampur University,
Orissa (1994). She has also earned an
International Diploma in Storytelling from Kathalaya, and Association of
Montessori International (AMI) Certification for teaching for 3-6 year-olds
from Navadisha Montessori Institute in Chennai. Currently, Varalakshmi
serves as the Principal of Purple Iris Play School, where she continues to
impart Montessori education to young learners. Her career highlights include teaching at
esteemed institutions such as St. Pius Higher Secondary School, Gokuldas
Public School, and Kaanger Valley Academy, where she played key roles in
shaping students' cognitive and social development. She has designed educational books for
pre-primary learners, contributing to the development of early childhood
education resources. As an educator,
she is committed to facilitating interactive learning, multicultural
awareness, and student motivation. Varalakshmi has
expertise in a wide range of areas: She has led phonics workshops at Aditya
International School, and for child-friendly learning centers under the
MARI-UNHCR project in Hyderabad. She
has also delivered a guest lecture on "Gender Sensitivity" at
Gayatri Vidya Parishad, Visakhapatnam. Over the years,
Varalakshmi has led storytelling sessions – for people of all ages – across
Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. She has conducted storytelling sessions in
schools and libraries such as Klorofeel International School in Orissa, and
Visakhapatnam Public Library. She has
conducted storytelling sessions with her most interactive book, "Exam
Fever", including at Purple Iris Play School as part of a wonderful
initiative by Pratham Books, "One Day, One Story". She also conducts storytelling-related
workshops for teachers, including at Sri Ram International School in
Puducherry. Varalakshmi sees each
storytelling as an opportunity to connect, educate, and spark
imagination. She conducts storytelling
workshops for people in various age groups, creating engaging experiences and
fostering a love for stories among her trainees. With her dynamic and
resourceful approach to teaching, coupled with her storytelling prowess,
Varalakshmi seeks to extend storytelling to a broader audience – from
children to adults, reaching more people in new regions and enriching their
lives through the magic of stories.
She is proficienct in diverse storytelling techniques, including
Kamishibai, Kavad, and musical storytelling.
Presently she is focused on studying, performing, and giving training
in Kamishibai, a dynamic storytelling technique that integrates visual art
with narrative. She would like to
introduce more children to this captivating art form. By sharing Kamishibai, she aims to
cultivate a deep appreciation and foster a deeper love for stories while
